Tamarack Ranch of Joseph, Oregon, owner Suzy Simar, and Silver Spurs Equine, owner Michael Miola, are firm believers in offering young reining horses more time to receive the training they need to have long sound careers in the exciting and demanding sport of reining.
In May of 2016 the first Wild Card Reining Challenge in Las Vegas, Nevada was held at the South Point Hotel, Casino and Equestrian Center. The WCRC and its Four-Year-Old Futurity was specifically created and developed by Brumley Management Group to offer young reining horses the opportunity to mature and allow their trainers time to begin the detailed process of teaching these beautiful horses all the skills necessary to compete in the sport of reining.
The WCRC proudly recognizes returning title sponsor of the Wild Card Reining Challenge Four-Year-Old Futurity Tamarack Ranch of Joseph, Oregon. Owner Suzy Simar is a longtime supporter of Brumley Management events. Tamarack Ranch prides itself on raising and training horses of sound minds and healthy bodies. Tamarack Ranch trainer Gabe Hutchings states, “Now that this is the third year for the Wild Card Reining Challenge, we have seen what it’s done for our horses and program. It’s obvious that the WCRC is a must for the future of Reining,” Hutchings continues, “It has given so many horses somewhere to go that may not have had a chance (to compete) if we didn’t have this show.”
The Wild Card Reining Challenge warmly welcomes its newest partner Silver Spurs Equine as the title sponsor of the $65,000 Added Four-Year-Old Stakes. Owner of Silver Spurs Equine Michael Miola feels just as passionate about this event. Miola states, “Silver Spurs Equine and our Xtra Quarter Horse Division are proud to be the Title Sponsor of the WCRC 4-Year Old Stakes. For a long time we have been advocates for venues to showcase 4-year old horses that were just not ready to compete successfully as 3-year olds. Knowing that there are events tailored to those horses will enable trainers and owners alike to take their time with their prospects; a tremendous benefit to all. We thank Amanda Brumley for having the foresight to create and promote this much needed event.” While the Futurity has eligibility requirements, the Stakes does not. It is open to all 4 year old horses. Also if Futurity exhibitors wish to cross enter into the Stakes as well, they have the opportunity to win even more money.
“Events like Wild Card rely on our partners for their support,” states Amanda Brumley, President of Brumley Management Group, LLC the events producer. “Without these valuable supporters, these much needed industry changing events would not exist. We appreciate this industry and gratefully thank our partners and sponsors for their faith in BMG events.”
Eligibility for the Tamarack Ranch Four-Year-Old Futurity requires the entry to be a four-year-old at the beginning of the calendar year and cannot have been shown in ANY NRHA Category 2 – 3 Year Old Futurity. These horses can be shown in AQHA, NRHA or NRCHA events in order to receive the show seasoning required as part of the training process, and can show in any Category 2 Derby event as a four year old. “Our plans are to make the Wild Card Reining Challenge just as unique as its “sister shows”: the Cactus Classic, Arizona in March; the Reining By The Bay, California in July, and the Las Vegas High Roller Reining Classic, Nevada in September,” says Amanda Brumley. “We have included two full slates (NRHA Category 1) Ancillary South West Affiliate Qualifiers, and two slates of National Arabian Reining Horse Association (NARHA) divisions, a NARHA $5,000 Added Open Pre-Futurity, the SmartPak Non Pro Maturity, and two 2018 WEG Qualifiers for our friends from the World Para Reining Organization.”
