A fun bit of history about the sale and PRQHBA from many years ago. The first Broadus Horse Sale was organized by the Cinch Buckle Ranch, owned by Willard & Manly Moore. The Invitational sale was held in Oct0ber of 1977. The second sale was in October of 1978 with more of the locals getting involved. The Powder River Quarter Horse Breeders Association was formed in 1979 with the board of directors lead by Chairman Eddie Gotfredson, and Directors Darrel Hanson, Norman Turnbough, Manly Moore, and Rick Turnbough. The Association held the 3rd Annual Powder River Invitational Horse sale on September 29, 1979 with Jack Campbell as the Auctioneer. Ringmen were Bob Petra, Mike Madden, and Jack (Slug) Mills. There were 22 Consignors selling 85 horses. It was clear by then the sale was off to a great start. In 1980 the yearling halter futurity was added to the sale as was a Stallion alley and stallion service auction. Lynn Weishaar was the auctioneer, ringmen were local ranchers Jack (Slug) Mills and Dorvan Solberg. Dorvan Solberg was also the first futurity judge. John Johnson joined auctioneer Lynn Weishaar as our pedigree announcer in 1981, and a super team they have been.
