The South Texas Reined Cow Horse Association is proud to present the 10th Annual Heritage Days Classic, a cow horse event!
Hamilton, Texas – The 2020 Heritage Days Classic will be held at the Circle T Arena in Hamilton, Texas, from May 28, 2020 to May 31, 2020. This event will feature the HDC Derby, Bridle Spectacular, 2 days of National Reined Cow Horse [NRCHA] horse show classes, American Quarter Horse Association [AQHA] approved classes, Ranch Riding and a Ranch Cutting.
This year’s event originally scheduled for April was bumped back a month, but show management is confident this event will be a success and draw a crowd, that is safely distanced of course. The NRCHA approved show is hosted by the South Texas Reined Cow Horse Association. This will be their second year to host the HDC Derby during this show.
There is $15,000 in added money to this year’s HDC Derby. The Bridle Spectacular has $1,500 in added money and the horse show classes have an estimated $5,300 in added money for the weekend.
The Ranch Cutting will be held on Friday night in conjunction with the cow horse derby herd work. This will be a two and a half minute ranch cutting offering cash prizes and the horse’s best moves!
The ranch cutting and herd work on Friday will start settling the herd at 12 pm. Saturday will begin at 8 am in Arena 1 and 9 am in Arena 2 and run throughout the day until completed. Sunday will be kicked off with a church service by Bary Clower at 8 am and the horse show starting at 8:30 am in Arena 1 and 9 am in Arena 2.
If being the first big horse show in Texas after shelter-in-place regulations are lifted isn’t enough, this horse show was created to help support the youth of Texas! The Heritage Days Classic originated with Brian Sumrall to recognize the diversity required in a good working horse, with proceeds going to charity. Over the years it developed into a full-fledged cow horse event with a dedicated non-profit organization benefitting from the event.
Fifty percent of the proceeds from the Heritage Days Classic will go to the Equestrian Program at Still Creek a Christian School in Bryan, Texas. The school and equestrian program are designed for youth coming from crisis situations to have a safe and healthy family environment. They have found that the care, education and friendships created through horses helps the youth to overcome other challenges in their life.
