At the awards banquet that kicks off the National Finals Rodeo held Wednesday night, the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo received the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) Large Indoor Rodeo of the Year award for an unprecedented 13 consecutive years. No PRCA sanctioned rodeo has ever received the “Large Indoor Rodeo of the Year” designation back to back for 13 years.
Known as the “official sport of Texas,” many Texans are preparing for the upcoming San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, and rest assured they will be seeing the best of the best. The Rodeo of the Year designation by the PRCA is considered the highest honor in the sport of rodeo worldwide because nominees and winners are voted on by PRCA rodeo contestants, stock contractors, contract personnel, committees and members.
Executive Director & CEO Keith Martin commented, “It’s impossible to convey how much it means to our organization to receive this acknowledgement — especially in light of the other amazing rodeos in the PRCA. One thing we are proud to say is that our volunteers set us apart. They work endlessly to meet the high standards of the PRCA rodeo community and make our Rodeo the very best it can be. This award is truly a “thank you” for their legendary Texas hospitality, uncompromising commitment to excellence and genuine caretaking of rodeo contestants who spend so much of their life on the road. When you pair the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo with our wonderful historic city — there is no place else to be this February.”
The award was received by San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo’s Executive Director & CEO Keith Martin; Chairman of the Board Joe Soules; President Cody Davenport; Immediate Past President Joe Hutchison; Vice President/Secretary Rusty Collier; and Executive Committee Vice Presidents Fully Clingman and Clint Swindall.
The San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo has been an innovator to the sport of rodeo with its tournament style, bracket format and by hosting rodeo’s top competitors. This February, San Antonio Rodeo contestants will vie for over $1.7 million in prize money — the richest regular season payout in the PRCA. The organization researches and recruits world-class animal athletes from North America’s best stock contractors and books internationally-renowned entertainment. It also hosts the world’s largest Junior Livestock Show, a Ranch Rodeo, Collegiate Rodeo and Youth Rodeo. Over 70,000 animals will parade through the rodeo grounds over the course of the 18-day show.
